“Portanto, se mantivermos o curso proposto, inevitavelmente teremos de atravessar o espaço pelo qual esse cometa terá de passar.

“Vossa Reverência sabe, é claro, que esse cometa ‘Maluco’ sempre deixa em seu rastro uma grande quantidade de ‘Zilnotrago’ que, ao entrar no corpo planetário de um ser, desorganiza a maioria de suas funções até que todo o ‘Zilnotrago’ seja volatilizado para fora dele.

“A princípio”, continuou o capitão, “pensei em evitar o ‘Zilnotrago’ conduzindo a nave ao redor dessas esferas, mas para isso seria necessário um longo desvio que aumentaria muito o tempo de nossa passagem. Por outro lado, esperar em algum lugar até que o “Zilnotrago” se dispersasse levaria ainda mais tempo.

On the other hand, to wait somewhere until the ‘Zilnotrago’ is dispersed would take still longer.
